I just bought a 2003 ninja 250, and I'm rebuilding the carbs because one is leaking from the overflow, and it's been sitting for a while, and float is stuck or trash in the needle seat. I noticed in the picture above a clear hose running out of the center of the carb, and noticed after pulling mine, that It didn't have this hose.
Bike: 2003 Ninja 250 Bike hadn't been started in months. It starts up fine, but would die getting into gear or throttling up, so I decided to clean the carbs and change the gas. I took everything apart, cleaned her up, and put it all back together, following several guides and videos, as I had never done it before.
You should drain them any time you think your next ride might be several weeks in the future. Getting the gas out of the float bowls helps reduce or eliminate the possibility of your carb internals getting gummed up and needing to be cleaned.
